Money Group Success
More than 400 of Jean's Money Groups have formed across America, and Jenny of Santa Fe, New Mexico, is one of the women who has started one. Jean talks to Jenny about the progress that the women in her Money Group have made with their finances over the past several months.
Jenny says there are eight women who gather once a month for Money Group meetings. "We get together, we talk about our financial issues, we talk about the goals that we are setting for ourselves," Jenny says. "We are talking about what we need to do in order to reach these goals." The women involved in the group vary in age and income level—Jenny says some earn $25,000 a year, others make six figures. While the group is diverse, Jenny says everyone seemed to have one thing in common in the beginning—they found it difficult to talk about their financial situation. "In the beginning, it was shameful almost to talk about," Jenny says. "There was a lot shame associated with how we were handling our money."
Now, with Jean's advice and online program, Jenny says the women in her Money Group are no longer making excuses for their cash flow problems. She says making, investing and saving money are their goals. "Each one of us in the group is set up with the goal of saving $5,000 by the end of the year," Jenny says. The mission has been challenging, but Jenny says the group has learned a lot. "More than having that $5,000 in the bank at the end of the year is that awareness we all have gotten by writing down everything we spend."
Since she started her Money Group, Jenny says at least one member per meeting has had an exciting story to share about newfound financial success. Jenny says one woman, who is an artist, is now asking for more compensation for her work in order to meet her financial goals. Another woman has hired an accountant to help keep her finances on track. "It's incredible." Jenny says. "It is changing our lives."
