Sew Simple!
...a weekly feature providing answers to your sewing questions!

Suzy thought it might be fun to have owner and instructor of
Create!® Sewing Studio, Becca,  share tips and tricks about sewing with you!
Let us know what you think!

Q: How do I choose an easy project for a beginner sewing student?

A: The first thing you look for when starting a sewing project for a beginner is an easy pattern. Look for the following:
Relatively few pieces (2,3 or 4 pieces)
Words on the pattern description and pattern envelope  like “easy”, 1-2 hr. pattern (note: they never take 1-2 hrs., especially for beginners!)
No patterns for stretch knits. (By the way, Fleece is a knit, but flannel, which is also soft and cuddly is not. NOTE: Watch for my tips on fabric choice coming next week.)

A few tips from Becca:
“Simplicity” is the name of a pattern company, not a description of level of difficulty.
“Vogue” patterns tend to be more difficult and are not a good choice for beginners.
Know your measurements, so the size or size range of the pattern will fit!
Don’t be afraid to sit down and spend some time with the pattern books. I bring a notepad with me, write down pattern numbers and then look at the patterns themselves side by side to choose the best and easiest one.

Keep an eye out for more from Becca, each week in Suzy's newsletters!
