May 4th is the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby
Suzy loves all the race hype, don't you? Nothing says Kentucky Derby more than big beautiful horses and big beautiful hats. As long as they are paired with the traditional Derby cocktail, a Mint Julep, of course.
INGREDIENTS:
* 1 scant ounce minted simple syrup
* 2 cups crushed ice
* 2 ounces bourbon
* Fresh mint sprig, for garnish
PREPARATION:
To highball glass or silver Julep cup (everyone has one, right?!), add minted simple syrup, then 1 cup crushed ice, bourbon, and splash of water. Add enough of remaining ice to almost fill glass. Stir well and garnish with mint sprig.

Suzy Tip: Since your guests may prefer a lighter (more water) or stronger drink (more bourbon), set up a "make your own julep" bar with instructions on a cute index card!
