Resilience
Monday, May 18, 2009

As one of the country's most beloved political figures, Elizabeth Edwards has experienced difficulties that have unfolded in front of millions of people. From the unexpected death of her 16-year-old son to her ongoing battle with cancer, Edwards showed Americans that the best way to handle adversity is with dignity and strength.
Edwards will donate her time to share her experiences during a keynote address at the Center for Hope's Annual Luncheon, which will be held at 11, on Wednesday, May 20, at Woodway Country Club in Darien. In addition to discussing how her own personal struggles impacted her life and that of her family, Edwards will reference passages from her new book, "Resilience."
The event is co-sponsored by Barrett Bookstore in Darien, and all proceeds will benefit the Center for Hope and the Den for Grieving Kids — Family Centers' bereavement and critical illness support programs.
In her new book, Edwards draws on her life's experiences — as well as the stories of people she met on the campaign trail — to help those dealing with adversity understand they are not alone. She is also the author of the New York Times best-selling memoir, "Saving Graces."
VIP seating and opportunities to meet Edwards are available. Tickets and sponsorship information is available at familycenters.org or by calling Gloria Veeder at 869-4848.
