Write Your Heart Out
Calling all writers! Well, all teen writers.  This winter, Darien Library is launching its first annual Teen Writing Competition and are inviting all teens, grades 7-12, to submit their work.

Here's the scoop:
Deadline: February 20, 2010

Age groups: Grades 7-9 and 10-12

Categories: Fiction, non-fiction, and poetry

Winners: One first place winner in each age group and each category as well as a second place winner and an honorable mention will be selected.

Prizes: The winner in each age group and category will receive $100; the second place winner, $25. All of the winners will have their piece published in a booklet that will be distributed free of charge to in Darien.

Judges: The winning entries will be selected by local authors

Award ceremony: An award ceremony for all participants will be held on March 21, where the judges will announce the winners and present the prizes

Rules:
Fiction and nonfiction entries are 1500 words or less

Poetry entries are 30 lines or less

Entries must be typed, double-spaced (except for poetry which can be single-spaced), using a simple 12-point font

The author's name must not appear on the entry itself, only on the cover sheet (attached)

All submissions are final. Corrections and replacements cannot be accepted

Judging criteria:
Creativity: original, insightful content
Style
Technique
Content
