New Canaan Recreation Spring/Summer Registration

Suzy is thrilled to say that it's time to sign up for 2012 Spring/Summer Programs through the New Canaan Rec Department!
Here are a few of the most popular programs and there are many more that you can see on the website. Don't wait, the spots fill fast!

Lottery registration for all three of the Summer Day Camps (Waveny Day Camp, Pee Wee Camp, and Tiny Tot Camp) will be held through Wednesday, March 7th. Completed registration forms, a copy of birth certificate (if not on file) and payment are required to process your registration.
Start Smart Soccer Program, an introductory soccer program for pre-k children ages 4 or older, sold out last year so sign up fast! This program introduces kids and parents to the world of organized soccer without the threat of competition or getting injured. The program will be held on Saturday mornings beginning April 28th through June 2nd (no class Memorial Day May 26th) at the New Canaan High School Gym. Two sessions will be offered for a maximum of 32 children in each: 9:00(currently full) or 10:15-11:15 a.m. Registration is currently open online or at the Recreation Department Office.
Spring Soccer, for boys and girls ages K through 6th grade, is now open for registration, however the deadline is March 15th! The Kindergarten program will be Saturday only. Grades 1-6 will have one weekday practice and a Saturday afternoon game beginning April 14th.
STAR Soccer Progarm, a new addition for first and second grade boys and girls to the Spring Soccer Program to help boost skills in the field. This will be held for first graders on Wednesdays along with the second grade program on Fridays. Open to boys and girls enrolled in the Recreation Spring Soccer Program and held at the Waveny Park Fields. Professional coaching will be provided by Blue Star Soccer to help boost player skills. The program begins on April 11th or 13th.
Last Defender Goaltending, is a program for grades 1-8 for those interested in being a goalie, seeking to advance their skills! Open to boys and girls enrolled in the Recreation Spring Soccer Program. Mondays for 5-weeks beginning April 16th.
7th and 8th Grade Girls Soccer will be held along with the regular house program on Saturdays beginning April 14th. Registration is open.
Referees, the new minimum age of eligibility at 14 years old. Paid referees are needed for the Recreation Saturday program and interested kids need to have a soccer playing background, need to know the rules of soccer, and need to be free Saturday afternoons. Information is posted on the Town website under "Spring Programs". The April 10th clinic will be held rain or shine and will be the only clinic scheduled.
Golf program is filling up fast! Boys and Girls ages 8-17 will enjoy this four week Saturday morning PGA golf instruction beginning April 28th. Held at the Waveny Golf Driving Area, golf clubs will be provided for students who do not own them. Choose between two classes 10 AM or 11 AM.
Tee Ball is a great opprotunity for kindergarteners and first graders to break into baseball! Teams will be led by volunteer parent coaches on Saturdays begining on April 14th. The program is held on the Waveny Fields and does not interfere with soccer. Registration deadline is March 23rd.
Horses 101 is a great introduction for anyone looking to get involved with horses.
The Mead Farm location is hosting 4-week classes on Wednesdays 6 to 7:00 PM beginning May 2nd, or Sundays 2 to 3:00 PM beginning April 29th. Anyone aged 5 and up is welcomed (including teens and adults). Each class with an instructor includes 1/2 hour outdoor horseback riding in a ring plus a 1/2 hour horsemanship class covering general horse care, grooming, tacking & untacking. Participants are responsible for transportation to Mead Farm.
The New Canaan Mounted Troop will host a 3-week class held on Sundays 3:30 to 5 PM beginning May 13th. Ages 7 to 17 are welcomed to sign up.
