Monday, April 11, 2011

Darien Disposal Service, your premier residential trash service, has recently implemented the exciting and innovative new Single-Stream Recycling program to our residential clients in the town of Darien.
Here's the scoop:
Single Stream Recycling allows residents to place all recyclable items in one single recycle bin, reducing the amount of residential garbage by over 50%. The complete list of recyclables now includes:
All Plastics #1 - #7 glass bottles & cans
Milk cartons & drink boxes, junk mail, newspapers & magazines
Empty aerosol cans, Plastic 6-pack holders, lids & caps
Drinking glass & window glass, plastic bags & plastic plant containers
Wire hangers, shredded paper
Hard & soft cover books, blueprints
Egg cartons,corrugated cardboard
All boxes including cereal, tissue, yogurt containers
Frozen juice and food containers, ice cream containers
Wax paper & aluminum foil, mirrors, ceramic & pyrex
Plates & vases, all styrofoam
Darien Disposal recommends that each homeowner purchase a 65-gallon tote. All recyclables are collected in this bin. Please remember, much more material will be collected each week.

Single Stream Recycling has already been implemented in cities nationwide including local municipalities, with great success. This program allows for much less waste, reduces hauling costs and increases participation by the homeowner. This streamline approach to recycling will be the only option in the near future.
