December doesn’t get more festive than a day trip to cut your own Christmas tree. Jones Family Farm in Shelton gives you plenty of evergreen bang for your yuletide buck. With over 200 acres of trees to choose from, you’re likely to find the perfect tree for trimming.
The farm is open daily from 9 AM to 5:30 PM (December 24 the farm closes at 4 PM) Be there by 4 PM to cut your own. Or if you’re less than handy with a handsaw, walk the farm’s marketplace and choose from hundreds of pre-cut trees in several varietals that stand at six, seven, eight or even ten feet tall. Fresh evergreen and boxwood garland are available by the foot in the marketplace, along with pinecones and other seasonal decorations. Grab hot cocoa or hot cider from the snack stand and warm yourself by the open fire while Frosty walks the grounds entertaining the kiddos. And don’t miss the gift shop where you’ll find hand crafted ornaments and wine tastings from Jones Winery. A day out at the farm will leave you feeling like this really is the most wonderful time of the year. Even Santa will be stopping by December 17 and 18 for a weekend of festive family fun.
