Calling All Actors
Wednesday, January 02, 2008

The Library will audition middle- and high- school-aged students for roles in the adapted Reader's Theatre script of the book "Under the Persimmon Tree".
When: Saturday, Jan 12 at 2 PM
Where: Memorial Room, Fairfield Library
Reader's Theatre is bare bones theatre where performers use their voice to convey meaning. No memorization of the script is necessary. Performers read the script. No costumes, props or sets are used. It is a wonderful opportunity for people who have always wanted to try acting. This gives participants a taste of what it is like to perform in front of an audience.
The performance of "Under the Persimmon Tree" will take place on Sat. March 8 as part of the Library's "One Book One Town" celebration. Author Susan Elizabeth Staples wrote this book after working and living in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Ms Staples will introduce the performance and share her experiences that inspired the book. The sequel to the book will be released in 2008.
One Book One Town is a month-long celebration where every Fairfield resident is invited to read the selected book "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. Mortenson has made it his life mission to promote peace in war-torn Afghanistan and Pakistan by raising funds to build schools for children in remote areas. To date he is responsible for the building of over 50 schools. Both Mortenson and Relin will be visiting Fairfield in March.
