Help! School's Out
Thursday, March 22, 2007

Another dreaded Teacher Work Day tomorrow at Fairfield schools. Suzy loves the Teachers but believes her kids need to be in class...
Some activity ideas to get through the day:
Hop the train to NYC and go to Canal Street
For those budding fashionistas hit the bargains (read: knock-offs) on Canal Street (less crowded than midtown vendors and cheaper, too). Kids love, love this.
Ice Skate at Wonderland of Ice
Open skating from 11 AM - 1 PM
123 Glenwood Ave., Bridgeport, Phone: 576-8110. www.wonderlandofice.com
Get a Fun Lesson in Energy Conservation
Suzy's friend Kim says visit the Smart Living Center in Orange, run by UI. The Smart Living Center is a hands-on showroom where you and your kids can learn about the latest energy saving home products with interactive exhibits for the young ones. Best of all, it's free! (You support the place with the "conservation fee" at the bottom of your UI bill.)

Westport Playground at Compo Beach
The mercury is supposed to hit 65 degrees so take 'em outside. Visit this year-old playground on the beach. It's fabulous for the younger set and actually has some stuff for the older kids, too. Very clean area for a picnic.
Go for a hike at Sherwood Island
Pack up the bikes and go for a ride at Sherwood Island, off I-95 at Exit 18.
Spring Skiing
Suzy's galpal, Kristen, says she's packing up her brood and heading to Ski Butternut. Less than 2 hours north on Route 8, Butternut offers $15 lift tickets, tons of snow, and babysitting for kids up to age 8 if they don't ski. They also have tubing.

Friday is "Fairfield Day" at Magic Mountain. Join fellow Fairfield residents in Vermont for $25 lift tickets or $50 for a car full of kids.

Dinosaurs in New Haven
Skip the rigors of visiting the Natural History Museum in NYC. Stay home and drive to the Peabody, Yale's excellent natural history collection, closer to home in New Haven.
