The Fairfield Museum and History Center is offering a series of guided cruises of historic Black Rock Harbor, beginning Saturday, July 19. You'll will learn about this deep, protected harbor that developed as a trade port and shipbuilding center in the 1700s while cruising aboard the "Chief", a 40' Navy launch. You'll cruise past the beautifully restored Black Rock Lighthouse on Fayerweather Island, which at one time was used mainly for the pasturing of sheep. See Penfield Lighthouse, which is said to be haunted by the ghost of a former keeper and enjoy scenic views of the local yacht club, the harbor and more.
