Shiki Sushi
For more than 20 years, Mako has been the best sushi in town. In late March 2007, new ownership took over and renamed the joint. Suzy's not yet sure if it's as good as it used to be. Don't go looking for "foofy" rolls and exotic takes on the genre. Feels like a neighborhood joint.
222 Post Road (in strip mall with Avis, past Circle Diner), Phone: 259-5950
Lilac House
Lilac House sounds like a Chinese restaurant. It's all that that plus Thai and Japanese. Still suspect? Even a discerning sushi lover thinks Lilac House gets it right. Read the attached restaurant review. The NYT doesn't give "Very Good" very often.

Gaya
Across the street from Lilac House is the newcomer to the group. Gaya calls itself a Japanese-Korean restaurant. Suzy likes the intimate setting and the "crunch" rolls plus a lengthy menu of specialty rolls. The take-out presentation leaves something to be desired.
2449 Black Rock Turnpike (next to Swanson's Fish Market), Phone: 372-9900
Fin
Downtown Fairfield finally has a quality sushi joint. If you like large portions of sushi, visit Fin for more than bite-sized pieces. You can't beat the $7.50 lunch special.
1253 Post Road, Phone: 255-6788
Kobis
If you can get past the crowds waiting for hibachi, the sushi at Kobis is delicious. More reasonably priced than some upscale spots, the food is fresh and the selection terrific. Suzy's favorite is the gigantic I-95 roll.
451 Kings Hwy East, Phone: 610-6888
Tengda - Westport
If you are looking for a chic environment and foo foo rolls with sauces and all the trims, head to Tengda. Suzy's favorite roll the "Almond Dragon" isn't on the menu but ask for it and you won't be disappointed - it's superb! Suzy also recommends the Magical and Godzilla rolls. Be ready to pay $12 and up for the rolls with all the trimmings. Reservations strongly recommended, weekends fill up quickly.
