BRIDGEPORT RECOGNIZED AS HOME TO LEADING CHILDHOOD CANCER FUNDRAISING TEAMPRESS RELEASE: PRESS RELEASE: PRESS RELEASEBRIDGEPORTS THE FIELD RESTAURANT RECIEVES INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR EFFORTS TO FUND CHILDHOOD CANCERBRIDGEPORT RECOGNIZED AS HOME TO LEADING CHILDHOOD CANCER FUNDRAISING TEAMBridgeports The Field Restaurant & Bar (3001 Park Avenue) was home to the NUMBER ONE TEAM for St. Baldricks Foundation in 2007. The St Baldricks Foundation is an international organization where participants shave their heads in exchange for donations towards childhood cancer research, in order to raise both money and awareness. Since its founding in 2000, the St. Baldrick's Foundation has raised over $20 million ($12.4 million in 2007).TeamBrent, whose flagship event is held annually at Bridgeports The Field, raised $431,000 in 2007 (over twice as much as next largest St Baldricks team). TeamBrent was formed in 2005 in honor of local Southport resident Brent McCreesh, now 5 years old, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was two years old, a rare form of childhood cancer. The Field event on 3/14/06 was MCd by NBC/MSG news anchor/sportscaster Deb Kaufman, and speakers included John McKenna of the St. Baldrick's Board of Directors.
TeamBrent has been the #1 team internationally for the past 2 years, and has empowered the community bringing together children and adults to sit side by side and get their heads shaved to show solidarity with the children fighting cancer. The Field restaurant is the core for the efforts, as its owners, bartenders, owners father, owners brother, patrons, friends, etc all join forces with other local business owners to raise money and awareness to fight childhood cancer. In 2007 local business owners of Children of the Sound, Keough's Hardware, the Nauti Dolphin, CT Tank Removal, the Little Gym of Fairfield, Raymond Forehand Associates and the Field Restaurant all shaved their heads for the cause. Also shaving were the Fairfield Firefighters Local 1426 and the Sacred Heart University Hockey team and many, many more area residents male and female - ranging in age from 5 to 71 years. The flagship event at The Field brought together many people who fight the disease in different ways - representatives from Yale New Haven Hospital, Boston Childrens Hospital/the Dana Farber, the MakeaWish Foundation, Sloan Kettering, CancerCares, Willows Pediatrics all in one room, united to support TeamBrent.
St. Baldrick's began as a casual conversation between friends and has exploded into the world's biggest volunteer-driven fundraising program for childhood cancer! Events have taken place in 10 countries and 42 US states, raising over $20 million, and shaving more than 26,000 heads.
How much would you pay to see me shave my head bald to find a cure for childhood cancer That question is the essence of St Baldricks. It is answered with a laugh and a generous donation. Funds are directed to childhood cancer research
Kathleen Ruddy, Executive Director, St. Baldricks Foundation
"Brent McCreesh has inspired thousands who wish to stand in solidarity with the
we pledge to shave with you until that day comes."
