Memorial Day in Fairfield
Monday, May 21, 2012

Suzy is set to kick off summertime in a big way. And what’s better than a hometown Memorial Day parade to usher in the summer season, while gathering with friends and family to celebrate the heroes in our midst?
The Annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast at St. Paul's Church is a town favorite as crowds gather around the Town Hall Green to enjoy the historic parade. They'll be flipping pancakes from 7:30 - 11 AM. (Servicemen and servicewomen will receive breakfast at no charge!)
The Fairfield Memorial Day parade begins at 10 AM sharp. The parade marches from South Pine Creek Road along Post Road to the Library then along Old Post Road passing the Town Green and continuing until just beyond South Benson Road.
The First Church is hosting a Memorial Day Celebration including Hot Air Balloon Rides - $10 (from 9:00-11:00), an extra large bouncy house for jumpy kids, ice cream, popcorn, cotton candy, lemonade, and fresh baked goods. All proceeds will support First Church in its ministry to the community, including Habitat for Humanity. The fun is from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
Following the parade, head to the Fairfield Museum and History Center for their annual Memorial Day Picnic. The Kiwanis Club will be selling great hot dogs and burgers, they'll have games for the kids and a complimentary afternoon at the museum to the IMAGES 2012 exhibition.
Memorial Day is also an opportunity to give back. The Fairfield Rotary Club will have a truck preceding the start of the Memorial Day Parade in Fairfield, collecting non perishable items to be donated to the “Homes For The Brave” in Bridgeport. There will be marchers walking along the parade route collecting items which can include canned goods, coffee, powder creamers, twin size sheets, pillows, towels and any toiletries. For a full list of requested items, go to www.homesforthebrave.org.
