1st Annual Waterman's Challenge

Get ready for the 1st Annual Waterman's Challenge Stand Up Paddle Charity Event at Lantern Point on Fairfield Beach. The event features a paddle from Fairfield to Southport and back with a beach party to follow on Lantern Point. The party will feature food music and lots of fun stuff for the kids, bring the whole family! "Sharkey", the Aquarium's mascot will be making an appearance.
When: Sunday, June 26th
Time: Paddle kicks off at 9AM. Beach party to start at 11AM.
Paddlers and Kayakers:
Event participants should arrive at the beach by 8:30 AM to be ready for a 9 AM start. The group will be paddling from Lighthouse Point Beach directly out and around Penfield Lighthouse, making a straight shot toward the Southport Harbor, into the harbor and then make the return trip. The entire trip should take about 2 hours.
The paddle course is approximately 4 miles in length and only proficient paddlers should plan to participate. Beginners can join in the paddling fun with certified instructors giving lessons during the day.
Paddler families and all non paddlers:
If you are not paddling, from 8:30-9 AM for coffee and bagels will be served. The days’ events will begin around 10 AM, so while the paddlers are out doing their thing, relax on the beach, take a walk or just enjoy your coffee until they return. Don't forget your sunscreen and beach gear.

Notes & Details:
The US Coast guard has designated paddleboards as “vessels” starting this year. This means that all paddlers will be required to have a pfd and a whistle. If you have a pfd please bring one with you. Extra paddleboards, pfd’s and whistles, but supply will be limited, so please bring your equipment with you for the paddle.
