Help Fairfield Ludlowe High teach upper class students about the power of work by contributing to their internship program.
Here are the details on how local businesses can contribute to the education of our kids as FLHS guidance office expands career services:
Today's work environment is more competitive than ever. At Fairfield Ludlowe High School, students can learn about career opportunities through a variety of experiential programs. These programs allow students to bridge the gap between academics and the workplace enabling them to gain life-long skills. Thanks to the generosity of parents and local community, FLHS seniors have the chance to work 25 – 35 hours per week (unpaid) for four weeks through the senior internship program, and juniors can "shadow" professionals who teach them about their careers. Residents and businesses employ many of our students as part-time workers. And, throughout their four years at FLHS, students also share their time and talents volunteering in the greater Fairfield area. Students and their families understand the value of experiential education and as a result, these programs are growing.
Here's what FLHS needs:
Work sites for the Senior Internship Program:
Students go into the workplace for 25 – 35 hours (UNPAID) per week instead of attending the last four weeks of classes. Three years ago 34 students launched our pilot program and last year that number increased to 184. We need work sites for seniors… would you be willing to sponsor an intern or refer us to a potential employer?
Work sites for the Junior Job Shadow Day:
On February 2nd, 2009, we sponsored our first Shadow Day for juniors. Twenty juniors spent a day "shadowing" a professional in their field of interest. They learned about the education and skills required to succeed in that field. What a success! We hope to grow this program in the years to come. In the future, we will need more shadow sites for juniors… would you be willing to host a student for a day?
Speakers for Career Day: COMING SOON
Confident career choices come from well informed sources. Students will have the opportunity to learn about real jobs, training, skills and industry trends at Career Day. More details to follow soon! Would you be willing to talk about your career path and industry to a group of students?
Part-Time Jobs:
Students need paying jobs too! Earning money is not the only benefit to a part-time job; students develop a sense of responsibility, communication skills and time management. Many of our students are looking for part-time jobs. If you need help, would you please call us and post your opening with us? Long term, short term, office work, babysitting, tutoring, music lessons, etc.
Volunteer Opportunities:
FLHS students have lots of talents and they want to share them with you! If your organization could use some extra hands, please call us. We will advertise your needs to our students and help you get your job done.
If you have either a paid part-time job or volunteer opportunity to fill, please call the College & Career Center and they will post the position to their students.
