Be an Informed Parent
Saturday, March 07, 2009

If you're a Fairfield parent you should be aware of possible upcoming changes in the school district and plan to attend upcoming meetings or email Board of Education members to voice your concern.
Proposed Stratfield Redistricting
At the last BOE meeting, the Board was split between a 5-school mini-redistricting now or to move a grade of Stratfield children for 1-2 years during construction and redistrict the entire town in 1-2 years. Click here for Ann Clark's letter regarding this issue. (See plan attached below.) These plans do not consider any movement of private school students switching to public schools which given the current economic environment could be unprecedented.
Options for Overcrowding at Stratfield Elementary School (Mini-Redistricting) will be discussed Tuesday, March 10th, at Fairfield Warde High School Auditorium at 7 PM.
If you have concerns about this plan, it is important for you to contact the Board of Education Members and the FPS Administration with questions/concerns prior to tomorrow's meeting (Tuesday, March 10th). There is a list attached below with BOE contact information.
Middle School Issue
Did you know that in 2012-13 the FPS Middle Schools Do NOT Have Enough Seats for Our Current Elementary School Students? Current 2nd Graders, who will be in middle school then, will not have enough seats to accommodate all the students. If this is not addressed soon, there will not be time remedy this. If you have concerns about this issue, email or call the Board of Education, Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance and the RTM.
2009/2010 Budget
BOE Budget will be Presented to the Board of Finance (BOF) and Board of Selectman (BOS) tonight at 7:30 PM at the BOE (501 Kings Hwy, 2nd Flr Conference Rm). Parent attendance is strongly recommended at this meeting to show support for education in Fairfield. This week the BOE Budget will be reviewed by the Board of Selectman (BOS) and the Board of Finance (BOF). They have the ability to reduce/increase the BOE budget.
Can't make evening meetings? The BOF is meeting Saturday, March 21st from 10 AM-Noon at the Fairfield Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace. The public will be allowed to address the board at this meeting and you are encouraged to voice your concerns and share your opinion.
The Board of Finance will vote on the budget on Monday, March 30th.
