The Bronx Zoo
The Bronx Zoo sounds exotic and far-away. Hard to believe it's under an hour from Fairfield (barring unforeseen traffic).
Perfect for all ages... but be sure to pack the stroller. A lot of walking for the small ones.

Open since 1899, the Bronx Zoo is one of the foremost animal exhibits in the world. The park is well-organized with omnipresent guideposts to help the visitor. Plan your day around the Congo Gorilla Forest, a 6 1/2 acre African rain forest habitat with more 400 species highlighted by 23 entertaining gorillas.

The Butterfly exhibit is a must-see. And don't forget the polar bears, giraffes and reptile and mouse house. If the kids need a break from the animals, there's the monorail ride, a bug carousel plus weekly lawn events that are advertised on the Zoo's website.

Suzy's tips:
*Buy your tickets online at link below, and avoid the lines at the front gate.

*Buy the "P.O.P. -- Pay One Price -- pass ($25 per adult, $19 for kids ages 3-12).  No waiting in line for the zoo's most popular attractions including the monorail, carousel, gorilla and butterfly exhibits

*Plan to arrive at 10 AM when the gates open. The park gets very crowded on weekend afternoons.

*If you need to rent a double stroller -- with room for 3 under 4 years old -- get there by 10 AM.

*Bring a picnic lunch!
