Brownies with fresh summer berries
Wednesday, June 20, 2007

Suzy's mom made this dessert every summer after picking fresh berries. It's an easy finish to a casual summer dinner party. Feel free to substitute box brownies......mom won't mind.
Top each brownie with a scoop of good vanilla ice cream (Suzy's mad for Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Bean) and spoon warm berry compote over ice cream.
Mom's Brownies
(2) 1 oz squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 C butter
1 C sugar
1 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 C flour

Melt chocolate. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, beat well. Blend in chocolate, vanilla and flour. Add nuts.
Greased pan, 325 oven for 35 minutes.
Mixed Berry Compote
1 pint fresh picked strawberries
1 pint fresh picked blueberries
3/4 C sugar
Combine berries in small pot on stove adding sugar and 1/2 C water. Bring all to a boil mixing constantly. Let simmer about 10 minutes until thinkened. Spoon warm over ice cream and brownie.
