CancerCare Walk for Hope
Sunday, September 06, 2009

The Third Annual Walk for Hope of CancerCare of Connecticut is this Sunday, September 13th at Jennings Beach. Last year, the five-kilometer (3 ½-mile) walk drew 150 walkers as individuals and in teams and raised more than $16,000 to support the work of the nonprofit resource for people with cancer and their families.
The walk brings together families, friends and members of the community to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people fighting cancer, celebrating survivors, honoring those lost to cancer and giving hope to those coping with the challenge of the disease.
Walkers collect a minimum of $25 in pledges to participate with no minimum for children 12 or younger. All receive a Walk for Hope T-shirt. There are also prizes for the top individuals and teams and those who achieve a certain level of pledges. Corporate sponsorships are also available.
Rain or shine, the walk starts at 9 a.m. and offers light refreshments. To register call Stephanie Weirsman at (203) 854-9911or contact her online at
CancerCare of Connecticut provided no-cost assistance to more than 2,500 people last year. The aid covered professional counseling and support services, more than $200,000 in direct financial aid, specialized programs for children and diagnosis-specific educational materials.
