A Pooch Party
Sunday, September 14, 2008

Calling all creatures big and small! The annual Blessing of the Animals at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Black Rock has expanded into a full-fledged fair Sunday, Oct. 5
What: Dog Fair and Dog Walk
When: Sunday, Oct. 5, Noon - 5 PM
Where: St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 10 Jetland Street, Bridgeport
stmarksblackrock.com
The festival will feature "Walk With Harold for Women's Health", which will benefit Women's Health & Education programs at Milford Hospital by inviting participants to walk with their dogs for one mile along scenic Black Rock. Milford Hospital's Women's Health & Education programs include community programs, support groups and health screenings.
The fair will feature artisans and merchants offering items and services, many of which are bound to thrill animal lovers, as well as shoppers getting an early start on the holidays. All proceeds from the fair go to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Bridgeport-area food pantries and animal rescue organizations.
Dog owners will be offered "dog chipping," in which a microchip, the size of a grain of rice, is implanted into your pet for tracking and identification if he is ever lost or stolen. This valuable service comes from Home Again, courtesy Ash Creek Animal Hospital. A $100 value, this service will be offered at $40 per dog. This is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Advance registration takes place at Happy Tails at Ash Creek, 3008 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06605.
The public is also urged to bring their used towels and blankets, which are in great need by the Bridgeport animal shelter. They will be collected right at the fair.
