Help Feed the Hungry in Half-an-Hour
1 in 5 American children live in a household that sometimes runs out of food, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. But, according to Kevin Mullins, founder of Community Plates, “there is no shortage of food for food-insecure children and families in the U.S. The problem lies in awareness of the need and coordination of the resources.”

Enter you, galpals.

The Community Plates works because of volunteers like you. The organization partners with local restaurants like Match and local markets like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods to rescue unused food and get it to the places where it can reach those who need it, like the Gillespie Center in Norwalk and Person-to-Person in Darien.

Because hunger happens here, in our neighborhoods, in our schools and in our communities.  But hunger doesn’t have to happen.

Food Runners (this is the volunteer part) move the food from the places that have it to the places that need it, and it only takes about 30 minutes of your time.
