Children’s Picture Book Festival

On Sunday, the Pequot Library is bringing together nationally-known children’s book authors and illustrators, who represent the very best poetry, picture books, art, and nonfiction for kids in the country for a Children’s Picture Book Festival.  The event features an afternoon of demonstrations, presentations, and book-signings all in time for holiday shopping.

Authors in attendance include:
Mary Ann Hoberman, the U.S. Children’s Poet Laureate and National Book Award winner

Melissa Sweet, 2009 Caldecott Honor Winner for most distinguished American picture book

Peter Brown, winner of the Children’s Choice Book Awards’ 2010 Illustrator of the Year and the 2010 E. B. White Award for Picture Books

Brian Floca, winner of the 2010 and 2009 Robert F. Sibert Honor Book for most distinguished information book and creator of one of the New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Books of 2009.

Other writers and illustrators scheduled to appear are Keith Bendis, Jennifer Berne, Calef Brown, Tad Hills, Pat Hubbell, David Johnson, Barbara McClintock, Marc Tyler Nobleman, Steven Salerno, and Bob Shea.

Children, parents, grandparents and teachers will have the opportunity to meet the authors and to purchase autographed and personally inscribed copies of their books. Throughout the day, authors and illustrators will also conduct readings, demonstrate illustration techniques, give interactive presentations about the creative process and explain how picture books are produced.

Exhibit of Original Picture Book Art on Display and for Sale
The community will also get a close-up look at the original art from many of the featured picture books starting October 24, when the library will display the art for a month leading up to the event in its Perkin Gallery.  Selected original paintings and prints will be available for purchase.
