One Book, One Town, Fairfield Reads Together

Three Cups of Tea was the talk of Suzy's last Book Club meeting so she's psyched to hear our town will be reading it together.
Join the Fairfield Library as they present their inaugural One Book, One Town program in March. The first book chosen is Three Cups of Tea, One Man's Mission to Promote Peace…One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. More than 300 copies are available at Fairfield Public Library, Fairfield Woods Branch Library, and Pequot Library. Additionally, some great events are planned around this community program.

Get Caught Reading! – Catch a chance to win $100 gift card, courtesy of Borders Book Store. Email a photograph of yourself reading Three Cups of Tea to the library, and you will be entered in a prize drawing on Sunday, March 2. Photos will be posted on Fairfield Public Library's special One Book, OneTown web page along with a community of other reader's photos!

Tea Party and Get Caught Reading Prize Drawing - Join us for a "Tea Party" at the Pequot Library. The entire community is invited. Also, the Get Caught Reading prize winner will be announced. Registration is required. Please call the Pequot Library to register (203-259-0346) Location and Time: Pequot Library. 3-4:30 PM.
Family First Sunday - Start collecting your pennies. The March Family First Sunday will be collecting "Pennies for Peace" to help buy supplies for students in Pakistan and Afghanistan. In addition, Pakistani culture will be explored with books. Then, tomars, (necklaces) worn in Pakistan for good luck will be made. Free for members, non-members $5, free for children 5 and under. An Evening with the Author - Greg Mortenson is the coauthor and the inspirational subject of Three Cups of Tea, which has been a bestseller for over nine months since its release and was Time Magazine Asia Book of The Year. Mr. Mortenson will present a slide show and talk about his mission to build schools in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Registration is required. Location and Time: Roger Ludlowe Middle School. 7-8:30PM

Under the Persimmon TreeReaders' Theater presentation of Under the Persimmon Tree, a tale intended for older children, about life in northern Afghanistan and Pakistan. Come and meet the author, Suzanne Fisher Staples, who will talk about her inspiration for writing Under the Persimmon Tree. For ages 10 and up. Registration is required. Location and Time: Fairfield Public Library Rotary Room. 2-3:30PM
One Book One Town—Stories, Games and More. For pre-registered children in Grades K – 3. We will read Four Feet Two Sandals by Karen Lynn Williams and The Gifts of the Wali Dad retold by Aaron Shepard—two children's stories from Pakistan, and learn a game that Pakistani children play called Up or Down. Registration required.

David Oliver Relin is the co-author of the New York Times bestseller Three Cups of Tea, which was named nonfiction winner of the 2007 Kiriyama Prize, 2007 Pacific Northwest Booksellers' Book Of The Year, Time Magazine Asia Book Of The Year, People Magazine Critic's Choice, and a BookSense Notable Title. Mr. Relin will talk about current events in Pakistan, about the writing of the book, and will also present a slide show. Registration is required.
Location and Time: Roger Ludlowe Middle School. 7 – 8:30 PM.
