Ready, Set, Go! On July 14th, the library kicks off the 2012 Library Olympics with the Opening Ceremonies, the first Library Olympic Event. This scavenger hunt has clues hidden throughout the whole library. There's even a hunt for the preschoolers!  Pick up your Victorious Visitor's Card on July 9 and earn a stamp for every day you visit the Library. Every visit gets you closer to winning a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal at their Closing Ceremonies on August 11.  Need a challenge this summer? Compete in “Track and Field" - the Library Olympic way to track what books you're reading. Or, try the “The Decathlon" - ten different tasks that must be completed by August 11! Drop everything and read in “The Marathon” on August 10. They've got over 100,000 titles for you to choose from.

The Fairfield Public Library Teen department is planning something a little different this summer:  The first-ever FPL Teen Summer Challenge.  Teens will compete in a winner-take all contest that asks them to complete 19 activities over the course of the summer, all aimed at encouraging teens to explore and connect with the world around them.  Activities are divided between categories such as Read, See, Discover, Create, Do and Help.

Teens earn points for completing the activities, which include reading classic novels, attending a live performance, watching foreign-language movies, writing book cover-inspired short fiction, attending library events and volunteering around the community.  Participants will log their activities on a website fplteens.ning.com) in writing about their experiences or by posting photos.  Librarians will keep track of points earned and at the end of the summer; the teen who has the most points will win a prize basket of free books, a video camera and more.  The Challenge will begin on July 1st and is for teens entering grades 6 and up.

The Fairfield Library has over 100,000 items for young people to enjoy, as well as the expertise of library staff to help children and teens find what they want and need this summer including most of the books that will be selected by the schools for summer assignments.  Remember, all programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free of charge.
