The Race to Nowhere
Are we pushing our kids too much? The must-see documentary Race to No Where has been engaging parents around the country during sold-out screenings.  It's showing beginning tonight at the Community Film Institute.

About the film:
A concerned mother turned filmmaker aims her camera at the high-stakes, high-pressure culture that has invaded our schools and our children’s lives in the documentary The Race to Nowhere.  The move features heartbreaking stories of young people in all types of communities who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are burned out and worried that students aren’t always developing the skills they need, and parents who are trying to do what’s best for their kids. Race to Nowhere points to the silent epidemic in our schools: cheating has become commonplace; students are disengaged; stress-related illness and depression are rampant; and many young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.

An exploration of the pressures faced by American schoolchildren and their teachers in a system and culture obsessed with the illusion of achievement, competition and the pressure to perform. Included are the emotional stories of young people across the country who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are burned out and worried that students aren’t developing the skills they need, and parents who are trying to do what’s best for their kids.
