Fuel for Learning Partnership Fundraiser at Whole Foods

Whole Foods Market in Fairfield has selected Fuel for Learning Partnership, a PTA Council standing committee, as the September recipient of their 5% day donation.

On September 14th, Whole Foods shoppers will be contributing to a donation for Fuel for Learning Partnership (FFLP), a PTA Council standing committee.  On that day, 5% of the total revenue will be given to support a series of afterschool programs for each school in the Fairfield Public School system.  The programs will be connected to FFLP’s initiative for the 2011 -2012 school year, The Veggie Pledge.

FFLP is partnering with Fairfield Public Schools’ Food and Nutrition Services Department to make veggies on the forefront of students’ minds this year.  Every month, from October to June, the schools will feature a vegetable of the month.  All students will get to sample the vegetable during lunch; then, the vegetable will appear later in the month as a new menu item.  Proceeds from the donation by Whole Foods will go to a series of afterschool programs connected to the Veggie Pledge and the schools’ vegetable of the month.

At every school in the district, Whole Foods will provide an afterschool program on nutrition in general, preparation of vegetable dishes in particular.  Each elementary school will have a cooking demonstration and samples for parents and students.  Each secondary school will have a hands-on cooking class for students.  Along with the program, each school will receive a book or magazine subscription to the library, gardening tools and/or seeds for their gardens, and a piece of cooking equipment for their school cafeteria.
