About The EQUUS Foundation – Helping Horses Heal People
Public interest in the therapeutic role of horses has never been stronger. Yet, at the same time, the number of abandoned horses has reached epidemic levels due to dire economic conditions affecting Americans. The goal of The EQUUS Foundation, a 501(c) (3) national charitable foundation, is to provide the support needed to not just rescue these noble animals but also re-train them to improve their lives and enrich the lives of people who can benefit from them. By bonding with these gentle giants, we learn to take control of our lives and become more capable of facing life’s challenges. The Foundation accomplishes its mission by awarding grants to equine charities across the United States; operating a network of equine organizations and enthusiasts to stimulate advocacy and volunteerism; providing scholarships to reward volunteer service, and educating the public about the horse’s unique ability to empower, teach and heal.
