Do You Support the Pool Initiative?
Friday, February 08, 2008

If you feel strongly that Fairfield needs an outdoor public pool, show your support this week.
The Fairfield YMCA Pool Proposal will be presented at the LRA Task Force Meeting Wednesday, February 13th at 6:30 PM at Independence Hall.
The town is debating what to do with the land vacated by the John S. Turner U.S. Army Reserve Center. Town recreation officials supported the idea of allowing the Fairfield YMCA to build a municipal swimming complex on the 5.1-acre property at 180 High St. Other ideas include an ice-skating rink, a teen center or a home for Pilot House, a recently created non-profit that provides recreation and education for disabled youngsters.
The town can get the property for free if development plans benefit the public.
The YMCA has proposed building two swimming pools on the property plus a gymnasium, exercise room, multi-purpose room and lockers. Understandably, residents who live near the property are worried that the pool complex will cause traffic to rise in the area.
