Ice Cream Shops
On a balmy evening, nothing better than a cold lick of ice cream. Here's Suzy's guide to Fairfield's best ice cream shops. Got a recommendation or comment? Tell Suzy.

Sunny Daes
The name of the shop says it all. If you're looking for a sundae, this is the place. Sunny Daes also has a soft-serve Hurricane with mix-ins plus a lot of "Special Treats" that involve ice cream, pie crust and whipped cream. Also serves Italian gelato. Make sure the kids sit on Daisy, the plastic cow out front.

Timothy's
Close by in Black Rock this ice cream parlor with it's long white marble counters was one of the pioneers of the mix ins. Flavors made fresh in the shop include peach, carmel crunch, blackrock and banana. The scent of waffle cups created in the pair of waffle irons behind the counter permeates the air. A great way to finish off a warm summer evening.

Dr Mike's - Bethel
This ice cream mecca has been around for more then a quarter century. A bit of a drive out to Bethel but you won't be disappointed. This has got to be some of the richest frozen stuff on earth. Usually only a handful of freshly made flavors on any given day in their tiny shop, but there's always a favorite to choose from. One of Suzy's faves is the absolutely decadent "Chocolate Lace". For the more famished, try their sundae served up in a pint size container, topped with home made hot fudge and freshly whipped cream. A true ice cream nirvana.

Cold Stone Creamery
We know it's a chain but gosh darn it... the ice cream is good and the mix-ins are even better. Try the sweet cream with graham cracker and fresh strawberries mixed in.....need we say more?

Dairy Queen
Open seasonally. Suzy's favorite is a soft serve chocolate diiped in cherry,(she grew up on the stuff) but everyone else is crazy for the Blizzards.

Baskin Robbins
Drive-thru in Southport on the Post Road... enough said!

Carvel
Can't beat their ice cream cakes.

Ben and Jerry's
A drive to Westport has never been more worth it for a cone filled with the new Cinnamon Buns....cinnamon ice cream with chunks of cinnamon buns. This one is tough to beat!
