It's officially beach season. Here's all the info on local beaches.
Fairfield Beaches and Locations
Jennings Beach - South Benson Rd. & Beach Rd.
Lake Mohegan - Morehouse Highway
Penfield Beach - Fairfield Beach Road
Rickards Beach - Fairfield Beach Road
Sasco Beach - Sasco Beach Road
South Pine Creek Beach - South Pine Creek Road
Southport Beach - Pequot Avenue
All beaches are open from dawn to 11 PM, Year round.
Lifeguards on duty from 11 AM - 5 PM Weekends only from May 26 - June 17 and everyday from 10 AM - 6 PM starting June 18 through August 19.
Penfield Locker Rentals
Penfield Pavilion I located at 323 Fairfield Beach Road offers lockers to those wishing to change clothes, use showers or keep beach equipment. The 350 lockers are approximately 4 x 4 and are rented yearly to those families, couples or individuals who wish for a private place to change and keep their belongings at the beach.
Each year, those who have held a locker during the previous year will have an opportunity to renew it. After the specified deadline (April 27, 2007), those on the waitlist will be contacted by mail. To be placed on the waitlist either email the Office Manager or call 256-3191.
It's always fun with young kids to head to the beach at low tide. To check the tides go to www.tides.info
Penfield Private Events
Two Banquet halls are available for rental on the water at Penfield Beach. Reservations may be made 1 year to the month from the date. (ex: A reservation for April 21, 2008 may be made beginning on the first business day in April, 2007 during normal business hours.) All bookings must be done in person at the Parks and Recreation Office at 75 Mill Plain Road.
Lake Mohegan
Lake Mohegan, Morehouse Highway, Tahmore Road off Exit 46 on the Merritt, Fairfield. 203/256-3010.
This town gem has a life-guarded swimming hole plus sprinkler park with a short-order snack bar, an outdoor shower, a playground and nearby beach where dogs are allowed to run without a leash.

A day pass for residents costs $6 on weekdays, $8 on weekends; for nonresidents, its $15 and $18, respectively (Season pass also available. Must request it on annual Town Beach Sticker Permit Application.)
Swim Lessons
American Red Cross Water Safety classes are held in the month of July and August at Jennings Beach and Lake Mohegan. For ages 4 and up. Red Cross classes must remain small for safety reasons.
Beach stickers for entry into Jennings Beach and Lake Mohegan passes are the responsibility of each participant. (Get those from Town Hall.)
All Rec Center registrations are done by lottery. Registrations accepted by Mail or fax through Monday, May 14. After that, walk-ins are welcome to try and secure a spot. Send your request today!
