Shiki Sushi Takes Over
Sunday, December 16, 2007

Sushi lovers around town let out a sigh of despair when Mako of Japan closed its doors earlier this year.
With no frills and fabulous fish, Mako had won numerous awards as the "Best of Fairfield" sushi joint.
Sam and Amy Lin bought the restaurant and have left the unembellished decor and concentrated on keeping the quality at the highest level in the renamed Shiki Sushi.
It's tough to equal Mako's fresh sashimi but Sam, who learned the sushi trade from Hojo of Nobu in Manhattan, offers a twist of creativity that Mako never tried --- a menu more than 30 fancy rolls. Shiki Sushi veers from the same old seaweed and wraps its rolls in light takeoffs. Try the Hanukkah and All-American rolls.
Make sure to order the wasabi shumai, a kick of an appetizer. The traditional favorites all measure up.
