Suzy is ecstatic, finally a place in Fairfield where she can savor fresh and delicious fish tacos whenever she wants!
Bodega Taco Bar, located a couple of doors down from Hands on Pottery in Heritage Square on the Post Road is another great addition to the ever growing and impressive Fairfield restaurant scene. Owned and operated by Chef Michael Young, whose other shining star is Valencia Luncheria, in Norwalk, Bodega offers a hip and trendy dining experience, serving up authentic Mexican beach food. The space is small, but that didn't stop Suzy from enjoying every bit of the evening. The decor is so tastefully executed, that you forget you're in Heritage Square until you head out the door to your car.
The drink menu offers at least 50 different tequilas, leaving margaritas to be the bebida of choice. Suzy tried the Rosarita, a mixture of tequila, plum, hibiscus, lime juice and agave. Mexican and American beer offerings are plentiful; you can even get a can of Reingold or a Coronita bucket. There's wine and of course pitchers of sangria. For those choosing the non-alcoholic route a couple of fun choices include a Cuban milkshake or a Mexican soda plus an ample choice of waters and juices.
The food like the decor is authentic and impressive. We gobbled up the fresh guacamole and chips, loving the presentation of chips in a small brown paper bag. The Baja tacos were everything Suzy hoped for. Fresh panko crusted mahi mahi with pico de gallo and a drizzle of lemon aioli. Along with the fish, the el pastor (chicken el pastor with pineapple salsa) and the Argentino tacos (hanger steak asade, charred onion, salsa de chili arbol and cilantro) were delicious. A side of grilled corn topped with cotija cheese, lime and ancho chili dust left us wanting another!
In addition to their tacos Bodega offers Ensaladas for a lighter meal, Tortas including Nan Nan, Cubanos, a Bodega Burger and bigger plates for the bigger appetite. They offer one dessert, the Pastal Imposible better know as the Chocolate Flan.
From start to finish we thoroughly enjoyed Bodega and look forward to returning again.
