Sail American Grill Reviewed
If you’re looking for great American Cuisine in Rowayton, your ship has come in!

Suzy dined at the new Sails American Grill on Rowayton Avenue, previous home of the River Cat Grill, and loved it.
The atmosphere is homey and welcoming for the whole family. The decor is appropriately nautical from bow to stern. The cleats on the window sill, sails on the ceiling and the roaring fire are all part of the attention to detail that runs through the whole restaurant.

The most important part of the experience, the menu!
We dined with some real “foodies” who had a hard time deciding on their meal, so we thought it only right to try a few different things and share.  We started with Mussels in a delightful broth with a bite of andouille sausage and Butternut Squash Bisque that was creamy, not salty with a bit of heat.  We couldn't turn down the Braised Short-Rib Flatbread that really could have been a meal with one of their signature salads and meatball sliders that delivered what they promised-the meatballs rivaled Suzy’s grandmother’s, and that’s not easy. The sweet corn chowder with smoked chicken was a table favorite.

For the main course, we tried the Chilean Sea Bass, light and cooked to perfection. The NY Strip steak was done just as requested, pink and juicy.  Suzy and her companions have eaten a lot of steak in their time, and aren’t easy to please, but Sails did.
The pork chop entrée was tender and flavorful and the Lobster Ravioli in a light cream sauce was divine.

Sails also offers a lighter fare of homemade pizzas, burgers, salads and grilled sandwiches.  Perfect for a casual night out with friends.

The dessert menu looked too good to pass up, and with a little arm twisting we tried the Butterscotch Pudding. It was rich, sweet and decadent.  The Turtle Ice Cream was a dessert lovers’ dream delivering vanilla ice cream, cashews with caramel and chocolate sauces-yummy.

For those with little sailors, the restaurant is child friendly with a menu for the pickiest eaters, and animal balloons made by the host, Terry.

It is wonderful to dine at a restaurant where everything on the menu looks delicious, the variety satisfies every palate and even better, when it delivers. However, none of this matters if the service is inadequate.

The service at this restaurant is exemplary. The host, Terry, could not have been more gracious to everyone in the restaurant. He truly welcomed all of the diners into his “home”.  Our server, Seth, was friendly, attentive and never left one of our water glasses empty.
