Pizzeria Molto

We should have learned our lesson by now. Never review a restaurant until it has been open at least a month. Suzy was impressed by Flipside Burger Bar in its infancy, but many of our loyal readers have not had similarly positive and delicious dining experiences.
Despite the recent burger flap, we're uncowed. Pizzeria Molto is a fantastic addition to the Fairfield restaurant scene. Nonetheless, we'll err on the conservative side -- we're not calling this a review of Pizzeria Molto; we'll wait a few months to get the kinks ironed out -- but a preview of what to expect.
Located in the renovated Brick Walk, Pizzeria Molto was packed last Wednesday. I repeat, the bar and restaurant was packed on a Wednesday. In sleepy Fairfield? You betcha. The wait for a table was 30 minutes. But that's okay because it allowed my group of NYC transplants to marvel at the super-cool city-like vibe at the bar, from the black and white Italian movies projected on the wall to the stylish leather booths that force intimacy and conversation. (Don't bring large parties... it's best suited for groups of 6 or less.)
The atmosphere is an upgrade for Fairfield and so is the food. The selection of Italian tapas is a unique way to offer Italian specialties. We loved the fried artichoke with marinara dipping sauce and the grilled squid with beans. Next time we'll be sure to try the appealing Mozzarella Bar offerings. The salads are perfectly proportioned with plenty of selections. For our entres, we chose the house specialties -- the thin-crust brick oven pizzas with gourmet and traditional toppings -- and were very pleased. Molto's menu also offers New York-style pizza and, of course, numerous pasta dishes. (We'll head back there next weekend to sample!) Most of all, we were shocked at the bill -- $120 for 5 people who chowed down.
Like any new establishment, the greatest challenge is getting the food line to work with crisp efficiency -- so you are not waiting on a course or a partner's entree. Pizzeria Molto struggled to bring our group's pizzas at the same time, but the owner rewarded us with extra appetizers and a complimentary dessert.
It's definitely not a place to bring the kids. Save this one for the grown-ups. We're heading back there next weekend. So, galpals... weigh in with your thoughts on Suzy's new favorite Fairfield culinary establishment.
