Suzy is angry. First, the airlines took away our meals. Then, they decided to ignore the timetables, virtually guaranteeing delayed departures and arrivals. Now, the industry has decided to nickel and dime (or worse) passengers for checking luggage. What's next? Punishing passengers who weigh 150 pounds?
My husband and I traveled recently on Delta and condensed our packing by taking a single but large suitcase. It weighed 53 pounds so we were charged $80 for an overweight bag. Learn from Suzy's mistake: Take up more room in the cargo hold and pack two bags instead of one!
With summer vacation quickly approaching, this item is to warn you to check with your carrier on revised luggage guidelines.
As of May 5th, United Airlines will only allow you one free checked bag if you are traveling on a supersaver ticket.
Continental Airlines and Delta have also changed their checked baggage policies this month, limiting economy-class passengers to a single checked bag. Additional ones will cost you $25 unless you've qualified under their frequent flier programs.
Jet Blue Airways will begin charging $25 for additional bags starting June 1st. Like most airlines, it will cost you $2 to check a bag with a skycap and no more free headphones ($1).
