Beading and Hand Stitching Workshop
1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield, CT
Learn how small beads can be stitched onto fabric “blocks” to embellish a quilt or pillow, a garment, or whatever your imagination desires. Artist Barbara Sferra will lead this afternoon workshop. Simple hand stitches using embroidery floss will also be demonstrated. The beads and stitching can be used together or separately to create your design. If you have something that you would like to enhance with hand stitching or beads – or both – bring it to the workshop. A kit containing a small (6”) square of fabric will be provided if you need something to stitch on. The kit will also include embroidery floss, needles, beading thread and beads. If you have supplies at home, you are welcome to bring them. Limited to 12 participants. We will meet on Saturday, January 13 from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Bruce S. Kershner Gallery at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. Registration is required.
Presenter Barbara Sferra has been embroidering since she was in her teens and discovered hand stitching to be a wonderful, creative outlet. Clothing, pillows and other small items were all embellished with her needle. In the last few years beading and hand stitching have added the finishing touches to her art pieces. Some of her art will be on display in the Gallery where the workshop meets as part of the current “Brush, Pencil, Needle” exhibit.
