Westport Farmers' Market

50 Imperial Avenue, Westport

Westport Farmers’ Market Enters Its 12th Year with Something for Everyone!

Mark your calendars for the start of the Westport Farmers’ Market on Thursday, May 18th, from 10 to 2 at 50 Imperial Avenue. Whether you are on a break from work, have a day off with kids, or are meeting a friend to shop, this season’s market has something for everyone. “We’ve been working hard to make the Westport Farmers’ Market a weekly destination for the community,” said Lori Cochran-Dougall, market manager. “And we’re really excited with the result this year! We’ll have all of the vendors and activities that people love along with new vendors and programs to attract new faces.”

Opening day promises to be food and fun-filled with music by the ever-popular Henry Jones (who has been known to serenade kids with a sweet rendition of Itsy Bitsy Spider), the addition of EggZ, the market’s newest farm-to-food-truck vendor, and a special sparkling-juice toast at noon to kick off the best season yet.

Chefs from area restaurants will return this year to provide a source of inspiration to area shoppers. Each week they will create easy, healthful, delicious meals using fresh, local products found at the market. These seasonal recipes and others from top chefs throughout the area will be distributed each week at the market and available on the WFM website.

Why not consider starting out the season by becoming a Friend of the Market? The market will have new bags available at the information booth for $40 and – in exchange – every vendor promises a discounted item. You could make back your investment in one day while supporting the hard work of farmers and makers.

“The Westport Farmers’ Market continues to blossom into a place that celebrates the best in fresh, local food, and all that goes into cultivating and creating it,” said Cochran-Dougall. “Thanks to the thousands of shoppers from all over Fairfield County and beyond, the WFM boasts nearly 50 vendors, food trucks, chef demonstrations, children’s activities, music, yoga and wellness classes, and more. It has become a destination for families, friends, and co-workers to meet, as well as the source for weekly food for the kitchen.”

Darien Library presents their annual Spring fundraiser on Saturday, June 3rd at 7 p.m. This year, “The Secret Garden Gala” will be a festive party in the outdoor courtyard with silent and live auctions, cocktails, Two Roads, Simply Creative Catering, and live music by Jay and Ray.

The Gala Committee is hard at work gathering fantastic auction items and making plans to transform the Library into a “secret garden.” Stacey Tié, Chair, is joined by Catherine Bailey, Alison Gird, Kathy Hardy and Sarah Madson, along with the Library Board of Trustees. "This is a real fun event that supports our incredible Library!” said Stacey. “Here’s a chance to start your summer with your friends, enjoy music, entertainment, food and drink, all the while supporting our beloved Library.”

All funds raised from the event will be dedicated to expanding library resources, including purchasing new books, technology, and supporting programs and guest speakers. As Board Fundraising Chair Tara Ochman explains, “This event is the culmination of a great public/private partnership, and we love that while it raises essential funds, it is also rooted in bringing the community together in order to celebrate what we have all created.”

The Secret Garden Gala is sponsored by David Harvey Fine Jewelers, Darien Rowayton Bank, New Canaan/Darien Magazine and Two Roads Brewing Company.

1750 Ogden House Opens

Fairfield Museum and History Center

370 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT 06824 United States

1750 Ogden House Opens Sunday, June 4, 1pm – 4pm. Tours begin every ½ hour. Last tour is at 3:30pm.
Admission is $5, $3 Students & Seniors; Free for Members. (Closed July 9).
Located at 1520 Bronson Road, Fairfield, CT.

Step inside the Ogden House to experience life in 18th century Fairfield. David and Jane Sturges Ogden began their marriage here, settling into farm life and establishing a family legacy that lasted 125 years. Museum Docents lead guided tours giving visitors fascinating information and tidbits on the history of the house, its intriguing two hearths, and the everyday tasks and chores that kept the Ogden family busy.

The Ogden House contains fine furniture, spinning wheels, tableware, iron pieces, textiles, and other objects from the Fairfield Museum collections. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The newly expanded Colonial Kitchen Garden adjacent to the Ogden House is generously maintained by the Fairfield Garden Club. The garden complements the authentic colonial home with oyster shell paths and wooden markers to identify colonial-era plants. In 2013 an apiary was established to respond to the Honey Bee Colony Collapse Disorder and to signify the importance of beekeeping in colonial times. Bee pollination insured the garden's productivity — the key to surviving in colonial New England. The honey produced at the Ogden House is sold in the Fairfield Museum Shop in late summer.

New York Times Bestselling YA Author Sarah Dessen to Visit Fairfield!

1499 Post Road Downtown, Fairfield, CT 06824 USA

website: www.fairfieldbookstore.com

How many true loves do you get in one lifetime? Once and for All, Sarah Dessen’s thirteenth novel, is set in the world of wedding planning, where crises are routine and ‘the big day’ comes nearly once a week. Sarah will visit the Fairfield University Bookstore, 1499 Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824 (203) 255-7756 on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 7pm on the 2nd floor, to read from her new novel, answer questions from fans and sign copies.  Please stop by or call the bookstore to reserve your copy of Once and for All plus a spot at the event-- everyone buying a book from us will receive a ticket for the Sarah Dessen reading & signing.

“Romance, humor, kindhearted characters, and a touch of painful reality make this another sure bet for Dessen fans.” – Kirkus review

Is it really better to have loved and lost? Louna, daughter of famed wedding planner Natalie Barrett, has seen every sort of wedding: on the beach, at historic mansions, in fancy hotels and clubs. Perhaps that’s why she’s cynical about happily-ever-after endings, especially since her own first love ended tragically. But charming girl-magnet Ambrose isn’t about to be discouraged now that he’s met the one he really wants. In Once And For All, maybe Louna’s second chance is standing right in front of her?

Isabell Dervaux has 30 years of experience as an illustrator and educator.  She is passionate about photo organization and is a member of APPO and NAPO-NY. Advanced registration is required due to the limited space.  All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free of charge.  For more information and to register for this event call 203-256-3160, or visit us on the web www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org .  Follow the Fairfield Public Library on Twitter: www.twitter.com/fairfieldpublib and Facebook: www.facebook.com/fairfieldlibrary.

Mindfulness and The Enneagram for Self-Discovery & Transformation with Sangeeta Bansal, Ph.D.

260 Stuyvesant Avenue, Rye, NY 10580 USA

website: www.wainwright.org/mindfulness-enneagram

4-Week Course - Dates:  June 21, 28, July 5, 12

Note: There will be an additional $12 for an online personality test you will take at home. The fee will be paid directly to the testing organization. You will be provided with further directions including the URL link at the first class.

The journey towards the center of our being is a long meandering road. One accumulates many experiences and memories along the way; these create and shape our personality. Our personality then becomes the lens through which we see the world. However, the lens can be obscured due to incorrect processing of the nature of reality, thereby rendering our individual personalities as blocks that stand in our own way towards higher realization.

What’s an Enneagram?
The Enneagram is a tool (synthesized from several spiritual traditions such as Christianity, Sufism, Buddhism, etc) that is designed to help us find these kinks in our personality and then apply this self-knowledge to the process of self-transformation. It identifies 9 basic personality types, yet its goal is to point individuals in the direction of underlying spiritual unity.  It helps us understand the roots of anger, avarice, sloth, deceit, envy, fear and other deadly sins and gives us positive tools to overcome these in ourselves and our loved ones. When we see our own personality holding us back from seeing Essential nature, we can simultaneously see the same in others as well, making us less judgmental and better able to sustain healthy relationships.

In this 4-week course we will explore both the Enneagram and Mindfulness Meditation. Both of these will be helpful in self-observation, self-inquiry and understanding one’s experience. The four weeks will be roughly divided into the following sub-topics.

1.Identifying each participants personality type
2. Getting to know our own personality type.
3. Becoming mindful of our hidden behaviors and thinking patterns
4. Developing a spiritual practice for overcoming self-limiting behaviors.

Sangeeta Bansal, Ph.D

In 2016 she is scheduled to offer workshops at the Stern School of Business and Rye Country Day School. She volunteers her time time teaching mindfulness to an under-privileged charter school in Stamford, CT, in addition to teaching several private groups and individuals with specific needs.
Sangeeta is certified as a Mindfulness Teacher from .b in Oxford (UK), and KORU, offered through the University of California in San Diego (School of Medicine). In addition Sangeeta has completed courses and workshops in the Mindfulness in Education Program at Omega Institute, (Rhinebeck, NY), the Mindfulness for Health Professionals in Hong Kong offered by Thich Nhat Hanh, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) offered through University of Massachusetts, and the Search Inside Yourself Program, a mindfulness based program created by Google for leadership development.

All children, except one, grow up…
Captured live at the National Theatre, a recorded performance of JM Barrie’s much-loved tale screens in cinemas.  When Peter Pan, leader of the Lost Boys, loses his shadow, headstrong Wendy helps him to reattach it. In return, she is invited to Neverland, where Tinker Bell the fairy, Tiger Lily and the vengeful Captain Hook await. A riot of magic, music and make-believe ensues.  A delight for children and adults alike, Sally Cookson (NT Live: Jane Eyre) directs this wondrously inventive production, a co-production with Bristol Old Vic Theatre.
