Fit4Mom - Water Balloons

464 Shippan Ave, Stamford, CT

website: fairfieldcounty.fit4mom.com

Join us from 9:30-10:30am with your strollers as we offer a workout designed specifically for moms! Pregnant and post-natal moms are welcome. Bring those children in those strollers for a great workout! Your first class is FREE!

Immediately following class we'll hold our playgroup from 10:30-11 (or whenever the children are done!) We love water balloons and today we're having our most epic water balloon fight yet! We've had dozens, we've even had 100 balloons at playgroup before but it just wasn't enough. The only solution? To bring HUNDREDS of course. Bring a change of clothes for your little one because we are going to have one wild and crazy water balloon party. Adults are always encouraged to join in on the fun! And if for some reason Mother Nature rains on our parade we'll bring hundreds of regular balloons instead. Check out our Meetup page for more playgroup details and future activities: http://www.meetup.com/FIT4MOMCT/

**BE SURE TO CONFIRM CLASS LOCATION that morning. In beautiful weather our classes are outside; rainy days, wind & mud will bring them back indoors. http://www.facebook.com/StrollerStridesCT OR http://fairfieldcounty.fit4mom.com

***Please pre-enroll for the event you'd like to attend so you receive an e-mail notification if we move class inside/outside. (http://fairfieldcounty.fit4mom.com)

Stroller Strides® is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes power walking and intervals of strength and body toning exercises using exercise tubing, the stroller and the environment. Taught by certified and specially trained fitness instructors, it is a great workout for any level of exerciser. You do not need to be in shape to take our class; we are here to help you meet your fitness goals without paying for childcare or gym daycare!

Stroller Strides instructors weave songs and activities into the routine designed to entertain and engage baby, while moms are led through a series of exercises specific to her role as mom.

In Stroller Barre we tailor our strength training to incorporate isometric holds & balances, much like you would find in a yoga, ballet, pilates, or bar style class.

This unique program also provides moms with the opportunity to meet other moms, engage in playgroups with their babies, and to form lasting friendships. Stroller Strides is designed to give mothers the "Strength for Motherhood!"

Westport Farmers' Market

50 Imperial Avenue, Westport

Westport Farmers’ Market Enters Its 12th Year with Something for Everyone!

Mark your calendars for the start of the Westport Farmers’ Market on Thursday, May 18th, from 10 to 2 at 50 Imperial Avenue. Whether you are on a break from work, have a day off with kids, or are meeting a friend to shop, this season’s market has something for everyone. “We’ve been working hard to make the Westport Farmers’ Market a weekly destination for the community,” said Lori Cochran-Dougall, market manager. “And we’re really excited with the result this year! We’ll have all of the vendors and activities that people love along with new vendors and programs to attract new faces.”

Opening day promises to be food and fun-filled with music by the ever-popular Henry Jones (who has been known to serenade kids with a sweet rendition of Itsy Bitsy Spider), the addition of EggZ, the market’s newest farm-to-food-truck vendor, and a special sparkling-juice toast at noon to kick off the best season yet.

Chefs from area restaurants will return this year to provide a source of inspiration to area shoppers. Each week they will create easy, healthful, delicious meals using fresh, local products found at the market. These seasonal recipes and others from top chefs throughout the area will be distributed each week at the market and available on the WFM website.

Why not consider starting out the season by becoming a Friend of the Market? The market will have new bags available at the information booth for $40 and – in exchange – every vendor promises a discounted item. You could make back your investment in one day while supporting the hard work of farmers and makers.

“The Westport Farmers’ Market continues to blossom into a place that celebrates the best in fresh, local food, and all that goes into cultivating and creating it,” said Cochran-Dougall. “Thanks to the thousands of shoppers from all over Fairfield County and beyond, the WFM boasts nearly 50 vendors, food trucks, chef demonstrations, children’s activities, music, yoga and wellness classes, and more. It has become a destination for families, friends, and co-workers to meet, as well as the source for weekly food for the kitchen.”

Pack a picnic, bring a lawn-chair or blanket, and enjoy one of the last evenings of the summer on Pequot Library's Great Lawn with Folk Duo, Hungrytown.

This special concert is the final event in the Pequot Library Summer Concert Series. Free and open to the public.

About Hungrytown:
After more than a decade of world-wide touring and three album releases, Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson--otherwise known as the folk duo Hungrytown--have earned a reputation for the quality and authenticity of their songwriting: “It’s great to hear an act eschew sentimentality in favor of honesty and to prove that you don’t have to go raiding the memory of others to find the stuff that really good songs are made of,” writes Jedd Beaudoin of Popmatters.

Lyricist Rebecca Hall is credited with compositions “that sound as timeless as any traditional songs” (Northern Sky, UK) while producer/multi-instrumentalist/husband Ken Anderson is lauded for his “remarkable affinity for instrumental embellishment” (No Depression) and for crafting Hungrytown’s “gorgeous vocal harmonies” (Folk and Roots, UK).

Hungrytown's introduction to folk music came when a close friend--who died young due to a tragic misdiagnosis--entrusted to them her collection of 1960s folk albums and her guitar (which has since been featured on all of their albums). Inspired by the grit and true-to-life experiences she heard in these traditional ballads, Hall was inspired to write the lyrics that later became her first songs, aided by Anderson’s flair for musical arrangement. Soon afterwards, Hall released two solo albums, Sings! (1999) and Sunday Afternoon (2002), both produced by Anderson. In the winter of 2003, the duo quit their boring desk jobs, moved to the green hills of Vermont, and decided to pursue a full-time career as touring musicians.

They released their first CD, Hungrytown, in 2008; Any Forgotten Thing in 2011; and Further West in 2015. The couple continue to spend more than half of each year on the road, especially roads in North America, Europe and New Zealand. Hungrytown's music has received extensive radio airplay worldwide and has appeared on several television shows, including Comedy Central's The Daily Show, IFC's Portlandia, and Netflix's Lady Dynamite.

Manners and Ballroom Dancing, including Table Manners at Pequot Library

For grades 3 - 7, children learn so much more than dancing!

For generations, the Barclay Classes have helped students grow into well-mannered young adults by helping them develop social skills, confidence, and poise while having fun. The program stresses the importance and practice of good manners and presents instruction in ballroom dancing. Dancing is used as a teaching vehicle using games to keep children engaged. The basic ballroom dances are taught in the third grade and then each year new steps are added as the children move through the program. Being confident and relaxed with dancing will prove to make all social events for your child fun and enjoyable.

The Program Includes:
Ballroom Dancing
Phone Manners
Respectful Behavior
Conversational Skills
Dining Courtesies
Introductions
Pride in One’s Appearance
Manners for Personal Electronics
Table Manners
Good First Impressions
Being A Good Sport
Thank You Notes
The Power of...Please, Thank You, May I Please, Excuse Me, After You

The classes will meet approximately once per month between October and May allowing ample time for children to be involved in other activities.

For more information, please visit www.thebarclayclasses.com. To enroll, please call (908) 232- 8370 or email enroll@thebarclayclasses.com.
