Know What You're Putting On

Before you put on your mascara or take a bubble bath, log onto The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. It's a national coalition of nonprofit health and environmental organizations whose goal is to protect the health of consumers by requiring the personal care products industry to phase out the use of chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects and other serious health concerns, and replace them with safer alternatives.
Recently the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics hired an independent lab to test bubble bath, baby lotion and other products intended for babies and children – purchased in cities across the U.S. – for 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde. Both chemicals are contaminants that do not appear on product labels, and both are carcinogenic; formaldehyde can also trigger rashes in those with sensitive skin. The results were alarming - popular products we all use are on the list. Click here to see how your favorite products fared.
