Suzy noticed her inbox was empty.
No more fun emails from the galpals. Turns out, friends were updating their Facebook profiles and abandoning traditional email communication. With increasing numbers of 30 and 40-somethings using social networking sites, we finally created our own profile.
The upside: immediately you can search for lost-long childhood, high school and college friends.
The downside: long-lost childhood, high school and college friends can find you!
All in all, it's an entertaining way to keep in touch with friends, share photos of friends, kids and parties. It can be as addictive as you want it to be.
Suzy's Tips: Make sure you ensure your privacy and feel safe using social network sites. On Facebook, click on "Settings" and "Privacy" and "Profile". We chose to limit "Only Friends" to see our information. This precludes acquaintances and friends of friends from accessing your personal info and photos... unless you want to be an "open book".
In order to decrease emails, we clicked on "Settings" and "Notifications" in order to turn off all communications to personal email. This way, your inbox doesn't become clogged with Facebook notices.
