Celebrate Hope

Best-selling crime novelist and former Manhattan sex crimes prosecutor, Linda Fairstein, and longtime Montclair resident and activist, Gale Britton, will be honored at the May 19th 2010 Annual  Spring Benefit of Partners for Women and Justice.  The benefit will be at the Valley Regency in Clifton, NJ at 5:30 p.m.  Advance registration  and ticket purchase are required.

Fairstein, the author of an internationally bestselling series of crime novels, will sign her most recent novel (and instant best-seller), Hell Gate, and auction off the opportunity to name a character in her next book at the Partners benefit.

A major voice in the reform of laws protecting sex- crime victims from being re-victimized in the legal process, Fairstein is one of America’s foremost legal experts on crimes of sexual assault and domestic violence.  Heading the Sex Crimes Unit of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for more than two decades, she served as lead attorney and directed all major litigation in cases involving crimes of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and homicide.  These cases included the prosecution of Robert Chambers (the “Preppy Murder” case) and the trial of the offenders charged with the riot in
Central Park following the Puerto Rican Day parade.  Fairstein continues to be a lawyer and advocate for women and children who are victims of violence.

The Partners benefit will also honor Gale Britton.  Britton joined the Partners Board of Trustees in 2005, where her enthusiasm and dedication have been a significant force in advancing the goals of Partners.  She is Vice-President of Recruiting and Selection of Agency Distribution at The Prudential Insurance Company of America.  With the combination of her amiable personality, humor and can-do attitude, Ms. Britton has been a major asset to Partners both in and out of the Board room.  In addition to being a member of the advisory council of STEP – Study to Excel Program of Montclair, Ms. Britton also works on the Human Resources Governance Committee for Wynona’s House.

Partners for Women and Justice is a Montclair-based 501(c)(3) organization that provides free legal help to low income, abused women in domestic violence and family law matters.  Partners has been recognized regionally and nationally by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Avon Foundation, Seton Hall Law School, Verizon Foundation and Partnership in Philanthropy for its work.    This year its benefit is given in partnership with its sponsors The Silver Family Foundation, Lowenstein Sandler and Lois Goldring.
