So the summer that never was suddenly is... The heat is on. Suzy's picks for this week below...
Suzy was in New City and happened upon a cool thing to do with the kids while you get a caffeine fix. Starbucks on Main St. in New City offers kids a free short hot chocolate and arts and crafts project on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm during the month of August. Love caffeine!
On Sunday, August 16th from 1 to 3pm, Hudson Highlands Cruises offers a special sightseeing cruise up the Hudson River. Cruise will depart from the Haverstraw Marina and cruise north past Stony Point Lighthouse, Verplanck, Tomkins Cove, Peekskill, Iona Island, under the Bear Mountain Bridge, turning at Ft. Montgomery Battle Site then returning to Haverstraw Marina. Cost is $20 for adults. $15 for seniors (62+) and $10 for children (5-12). Telephone reservations are required. You will pay as you board, they do not take credit cards. Please call 845-534-7245 for your reservation.
The Clarkstown Summer Theatre Festival 2009 presents their production of All Shook Up. As the title implies, the show is inspired by and features the music of Elvis Presley. What a way to get out of the heat. Shows are Thurs. Aug. 13, Fri. Aug. 14, Sat. Aug. 15 at 8:00pm and Sun. Aug. 16 at 2:00 pm. On Thursday, August 12 at 8:00 pm, there is a special Benefit Show for Good Sam and Nyack Hospitals. Suggested donation for that particular show is $20 at the door. Ticket prices for all other shows are $15 for adults, $10 for students and $10 for seniors/children. Groups can grab tickets in advance with a minimum of 20 people for $8.
