Sunday, June 21, 2009

Those Fourth of July fireworks start exploding all over the County in about a week's time so we've put together a summary on when and where to go to get your firework fix in the County.
The Town of Ramapo kicks off the Fireworks exhibitions on Sunday, June 28th. Gates open at RCC at 5:30 pm for a free, fun-filled event which will include local entertainers, a live concert by Peter Noone and the Legendary Herman's Hermits at 8:00 p.m. and a Fireworks display by the world famous Zambelli International at 9:30 p.m. If rain should fall (and doesn't it do that alot lately), fireworks will take place the following night (6/29) at 8:30 p.m. The Herman's Hermits concert will still happen on June 28th but at Suffern High School.
The Clarkstown Family Music Festival and fireworks display takes center stage on July 1st at 8:00 p.m. at Nanuet High School, 103 Church Street, Nanuet. The Bronx Wanderers band will play live music ranging from the 60s to today's hits. Bring your own blankets and chairs. If it rains, the concert moves indoors that night and the fireworks go off on July 8th.
The Town of Haverstraw gets into the Fireworks fun on July 2nd starting at 6:00 p.m. The Independence Day Celebration takes place at Bowline Point Park and features the Good and Plentie Band from 6-7:30 p.m., the West Point Jazz Knights from 8-9:30 p.m.and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Raindate is July 3rd with the Good and Plentie Band to perform from 7:30-9:30 p.m. with fireworks to follow.
The Annual Pearl River Fireworks Display hits the scene on July 4th. The events are held at the Gazebo on Central Avenue. Live entertainment starting at 7:00 p.m. with fireworks starting at 9:45 p.m. If it rains, the concert moves inside to Pearl River HS (same date) and the fireworks go off on July 5th.
The fireworks will go on in Nyack this year after Provident Bank rescued the display with a $10,000 donation. A concert starts at 8:00 p.m. in Memorial Park with fireworks to follow on the waterfront.
Another way to view fireworks on July 4th -- check out the Fireworks Cruise from 8-10:30 pm aboard Hudson Highlands Cruises. The Commander will depart from Haverstraw Marina and cruise north to Peekskill Bay to view the fireworks at Peekskill Riverfront Green Park. Cost is $20.00 for children (5-12), $25.00 for seniors (62+) and $30.00 for adults. Reservations are required -- please call 845.534.7245.
One other cool event to consider that doesn't include fireworks -- Haverstraw's International Food Walk on Saturday, June 27th from 12-9:30 p.m. Twelve restaurants will offer outdoor dining all day long and feature special tasting plates outside for $5 each. All locations will be in the town center within easy walking distance of each other. Plan for a day of food and fun in the sun or dinner under the starts.
