Sweet Strawberries...
For something to do this weekend within an hour of the County, look no further than Beacon.  It's about 40 miles from New City and just over the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.

The Beacon Sloop Club's Strawberry Festival on June 14th from noon until 5pm (beaconsloop.org) in Riverfront Park between the Metro-North station and the River is a great day out with the family. You'll find live folk music, a farmers' market with fresh vegetables and baked goods, and pounds upon pounds of local strawberries. It's a free event and the organizers have arranged for a waste-free and environmentally friendly event.  Sign up for a sail on the Woody Guthrie, the club's sloop.  Pete Seeger and other musicians will play while you grab some delectable snacks, including a strawberry shortcake that is baked at the festival.  Grab a helping for $3 (all proceeds from food sales go to Seeger's environmental organization, Clearwater).

Other things to do while in Beacon:

Beacon's main attraction is Dia:Beacon (diabeacon.org; $10), a former Nabisco factory that's now a viewing space for modern and contemporary art (featuring names like Andy Warhol, Richard Serra and Dan Flavin).

Hudson Beach Glass (hudsonbeachglass.com), a gallery, offers walk-in workshops where you can try your hand at glassblowing (Saturdays and Sundays, $25–$75).

Check out Retro Arcade Museum (retroarcademuseum.com), where you can play games on restored consoles from the '50s through '70s for $10 an hour.

Just another note...
In addition to the Strawberry Festival, June 14 is the date of Cold Spring's annual antique show (coldspringantiqueshow.com) which is really close by to Beacon.
