So You Can't Ski -- Try Tubing!
Thursday, January 28, 2010

Suzy admits that she really never hit the slopes until later in life so she isn't that good on the skis... now tubing, that's another story. So much fun!
Why not check out two snow tubing options that are really close by -- no skill required, just sit down in the tube and glide down the trails.
First option is Tuxedo Ridge at Sterling Forest. Tuxedo Ridge offers a lift-serviced hill so you don't have to worry about climbing back to the top of the hill. The snow tubing park here was redesigned in 2009 so it offers 4 lanes which means you can spend more time tubing. There is a Snow Playground at the base on Rainbow trail where the tubing is located. Tubing is open Friday through Sunday (and will be open everyday from Feb 12-19th for that school break). A few requirements -- you have to be at least 42 inches tall to ride (good to keep in mind for the kiddos) and no more than 240 pounds plus one rider per tube. Tubing is popular activity so book online to ensure your spot. Schedules for sessions are available on Tuxedo Ridge's website. Cost is $15 per person.
Next up is Campgaw Mountain in nearby Bergen County, NJ. For Campgaw, the requirements are that you can't wear ski boots, one person per tube, minimum height of 42 inches and maximum weight of 300 lbs. Costs are $16 for Monday-Thursday/Non-Holiday, $18 for Fridays/Non-Holiday and $22 for Weekends/Holidays. You can reserve your spot on the site. The cost includes unlimited runs and tube rental per 2 hour session.
