The Sounds of Summer
Monday, May 25, 2009

In the words of Suzy's son's current obsession Wow Wow Wubzy, Sing a Song, Sing Sing, Sing Along..... the city is abundant with music and culture in the summer so we wanted to let all our galpals know the skinny......
Central Park Summerstage is probably the best known and longest running concert series in the area. Ranging from world music, to jazz, rock, funk and kids there is something for everyone. All except a small handfuls of concerts are Free, and the ones you have to pay for are relatively cheap and charity based. If you cant get into the venue, bring your blanket and picnic just outside where you can still hear and enjoy the music loud and clear. Family Day is July 12th with Family Day! DJ Lance Rock & Brobee (of Yo Gabba Gabba!)
The JumpArounds, Billy B., Iza Trapani, Storyteller and a "Sleeping Beauty" Puppet Show from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM
The Amex River to River Festival isn't quite the same fanfare, but still packs a good punch in lower Manhattan with great river views. Saturday June 13th is Childresn Day at the Seaport with a ton of FREE Activities for the family begninning at noon.
Further North, we have the Union Square Summer in the Square Series. Each Thursday beginning June 18th will be packed with a fitness program in the am, Childrens Hour at noon sponsored in part by Baby Loves Disco and other great music after work. Check out the spankin new playground in the park which will be finished just in time.
Not so much into music? Movies your thing? Come one come all to the Bryant Park Monday Movie Nights begninng June 15th. Its Free and first come first serve on the lawn with a picnic and blanket. Movies begin at sundown. Find the schedule here. Lots of other things going on here too if you find yourself NYC bound during the day.
Dont feel like trekking south but dont mind a bridge? Swing by the Pleasantville Music Festival in Westchester on Saturday July 11th. Big Head Todd will be headlining, lots of food and fun for all.
