Blue Rock School Haiti Fundraiser

The community is invited to attend the Blue Rock School Middle School Haitian fundraiser on Friday, February 26 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. to be held in the Blue Rock School Multipurpose Room. The evening will feature a special appearance by Haitian poet Denize Lauture, musical performances by the students, singing, circus acts and a dramatic performance of a Haitian folk talk in addition to food and drink.
Mr. Lauture, the first born of 13 peasant children, migrated to the US from Haiti in 1968. He is a professor of French and Spanish at St. Thomas Aquinas College and lives in the Bronx. Lauture writes in Creole, English and French. He is the author of The Black Warrior & other poems, When the Denizen Weeps (poems) and two children's books Running the Road to ABC, Father and Son. The cost for the fundraiser is $10 adults, $5 children 12 & under and seniors.
All proceeds will benefit AFYA, an organization dedicated to providing health care supplies to countries in need with their current focus being Haiti. Blue Rock Middle School students will go to the AFYA warehouse in Yonkers and assist in sorting and packing health supplies and then provide the money to ship the supplies to Haiti.
