Help from People to People
Help from People to People is all about helping Rockland County families.  I know we don't even want to start thinking about Back to School but it will be here before you know it.  People to People has kicked off their Back to School with Dignity program for this year.  It provides school supplies, backpacks, sneakers and clothing to help the most vulnerable, low-income children start school ready to learn and equipped for success. Collection boxes have bene placed in 25 realtors' offices around the county, the JCC will be collecting school supplies, among many other organizations and companies contributing.  Now, more than ever, there is a huge need for supplies so consider donating what you can.  The top 10 list of needed school supplies are calculators, compasses, composition tablets, graph paper, 3 & 5 subject spiral notebooks, 1 inch binders, paperback dictionaries and pencil cases.

Another drive under way is the Stock our Shelves (SOS) drive for the People to People Food Pantry.  There has been unprecendented demand in the tough economic climate.  The pantry is in need of staples like beans, canned chili, canned juice, canned vegetables, cereal, flour, juice boxes, mac and cheese, oatmeal, pasta, PB&J, rice, soup, sugar, tomato sauce, tuna fish and vegetable oil but whatever you can give in terms of non perishable items are always welcome.  Suzy used to drop off the formula samples she received when she had an infant -- somebody should be able to use it.  The Girl Scouts and Town of Clarkstown is holding a food drive for People to People and Meals on Wheels at the Clarkstown Concerts.  On July 23rd at 7:30 pm at West Nyack Hamlet Green and July 28 at 7:30 pm at Congers Train Station, you can give to the food drive.  Also, on August 29th, the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency will host a Veteran's Food Drive for People to People at the Pearl River Shop Rite.
