Sunday, October 25, 2009

Suzy has met lots of wonderful galpals this year since launching the website. Recently we asked for you to raise your hands if you were interested in contributing and speaking your mind. We are happy to introduce our new ECO Series courtesy of Gloria Collins of GBC Style. She will be gracing us with bi monthly thoughts, helpful hints and ideas on how to be more Eco Friendly at home, school and in life. We hope you will enjoy her contributions as much as we do.
GBC Style is.....
thrilled to bring you a new way of living - Local Living. We are here to help you make eco-friendly choices to create a cleaner community and a more efficient and sustainable way of living. Our goal is to encourage Local Living, both in what and where you buy goods so you may truly enjoy your own living spaces without leaving a huge environmental footprint.
Without further adieu, the inagural article...
To be a Mindful Eco Mom is to what?
It's a fact. The experts agree there is wacky stuff going on out there on our planet. Global warming, toxins showing up in our foods, water that is not drinkable or lacking in some parts of the world, our bodies getting bigger with more susceptibilities to cancers, people starving, plants along with animal becoming extinct, rainforest being bulldozed while the industrialized world gets richer.
Recently this topic regarding eco life is becoming more and more important to me. Important because I've never been a doom and gloom kind of girl. But it forces me to truly become mindful on how we choose to live our lives on this truly tender planet. And how our choices have and will continue to impact the planet and those future generations to come.
We all know women's maternal instinct is "survival". In this Country the dream is to live fulfilled life styles. Meaning healthier, more creative, more technical and with more passion. More! Nothing wrong with that. But when we dig deeper and realize that sometimes our dream is at the expense of others. Particularly in developing nations. You see these Countries exist to feed our need for the acquisition of stuff. I began to have a problem with that.
I then stopped for a moment and evaluated how I chose to live my life as I will ask you to do the same.
My goal is to gently remind us Moms that we have a consumer voice that is quite strong. Even ten dollars spent wisely and locally can make a world of difference to help restore small Towns in our neighborhoods. Moms we need to band together to create the Legacy of strong Communities which enrich our lives and those of our friends. The time is now to be a part of the world movement to help and be a part of the solution and to do our share to create and not destroy this great world. To be mindful!
Eco thinking! This is what eco is all about. How does our purchase dollar or our actions affect others?
Respect for people, animals and the environment that's what it's all about.
